What can you do in 2017 to help implement Talent’s Clean Energy Plan so we all can save money, reduce energy use, transition faster to cleaner energy sources, and create local jobs?
Find out at Rogue Climate Talent’s 2017 Clean Energy Kickoff on Thursday, January 12, 6 – 7:30 pm, at Talent Community Center, 104 E. Main Street (behind City Hall).
Last year, community members came together to draft a clean energy action plan that can help businesses, residents, and government agencies use less energy and transition to clean energy like solar.
The City of Talent is currently reviewing the plan, and the City Council will vote on the plan for the first year in the coming months.
You can read both the proposed one-year plan and the steps to achieve it by 2030 at www.rogueclimate.org/Talent.
The plan includes practical action steps to reduce energy use in Talent by 30% and increase the use of clean energy to 100% by 2030, while creating jobs and keeping energy affordable.
Over the course of the next year, residents involved in Rogue Climate Talent and partner organizations will be launching multiple initiatives in Talent to start moving our community in the direction of saving energy and producing more energy locally. These initiatives include:
A neighbor-to-neighbor program that pairs residents who need funding for solar with residents who can take advantage of tax credits.
A ‘ductless heat pump’ program (check out the Flash for more info).
Support for policies at the state and local levels that make it easier for businesses, residents, and communities to transition to clean energy and help create clean energy jobs.
Transitioning to a clean energy economy will require all types of skills and all voices of our community to be heard. For example, are you great at meeting with people and explaining things? Do you want to save money on major bills and help your neighbors do the same? Are you interested in technical challenges, large and small? Good at fundraising or grant writing? Are you creative or good with words or art? Do you enjoy communicating about important issues? Do you have an hour to make rain barrels or install free LED lights for your neighbors? Or do you simply want to make a difference in a cause that affects us all? If so, the 2017 kickoff on Thursday, January 12 is for you.
At the 2017 kickoff, local residents will provide an update on the action plan and share all the different ways that community members can get involved. All kinds of opportunities will be available, including helping with recruitment, fund raising, publicity, installing LED bulbs, and working on plans for future energy saving and generation projects.
Refreshments will be provided and childcare available upon request.
