Social and Forum on a New Natural Resource Economy

The Mayor of Talent and the Rogue Energy Alliance are hosting a Social and Forum on a New Natural Resource Economy.
Come, enjoy a snack and beverage and learn about the work of the Lakeview Stewardship Group and the Lake County Resources Initiative (LCRI)
            - how they revitalized a local forest industry through forest restoration,
            - how they accepted that the industry could not operate at past levels, and
            - how they found an economy to fill the gap.
That gap is now filled with, as journalist Lee van de Voo put it, an economy “snatched from the air, sky, and ground.”
Jim Walls, Executive Director of Lake County Resources Initiative (LCRI) will discuss how Lake County has been branded the New Energy Frontier.  Learn how 22 small solar, geothermal and efficiency projects (including projects benefitting the county fairgrounds and  roads shop) expect to produce $ 1.9 million in savings over the life of the projects, how Lakeview developed a downtown geothermal loop heating district, how the prison, hospital and schools tap into geothermal energy and will net over $80,000 annual savings, and learn about the actual and projected jobs and tax revenues the numerous utility scale commercial energy projects will produce by harnessing a 10 year biomass US Forest Service stewardship agreement, the solar resources of Christmas Valley and the geothermal resources in Paisley.
This event kicks off the “Making Energy Work for Rural Oregon: Talent,” workshop taking place on Oct. 24, 2015.   See ** for details about the workshop.
