Rogue Climate is seeking a full time Coos County Field Organizer to stop the Jordan Cove LNG project and transition to clean energy. The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to recruit and support volunteers and coordinate between diverse groups. This position is an opportunity to engage with communities that are most impacted by the proposed Jordan Cove LNG Export Terminal and to build a powerful grassroots movement to stop the fracked gas project and transition to clean energy.
ABOUT ROGUE CLIMATE
Since 2013, Rogue Climate has been building a climate movement in southern Oregon to achieve solutions to climate change that result in cleaner energy, sustainable jobs and a healthy climate, while preserving our rural quality of life. We have also played a lead organizing role in Oregon to stop new fossil fuel infrastructure like the proposed Jordan Cove LNG export terminal and the Pacific Connector fracked gas pipeline proposed for southern Oregon. We are committed to working for climate solutions that result in a just transition to clean energy that benefits rural, low income and communities of color.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
As the Rogue Climate Field Organizer for Coos County, you will be part of a core team coordinating the campaign to stop Jordan Cove LNG. The Field Organizer will report directly to the Campaigns Director and will implement grassroots organizing and coalition building in Coos County. Ideally, you are a highly motivated individual that has a passion for climate justice and clean energy, and rural communities. Core duties include:
- Recruit, train and support volunteers in Coos County. This will include organizing phonebanking, canvasing, turnout to public hearings and hosting workshops.
- Coordinate with and/or deepen relationships with existing partners in the region including conservation groups, Tribal Governments, and more.
- Develop relationships with new partners and spokespeople (Ex. commercial and recreational fishing, local businesses, youth, tribal members).
- Develop a local volunteer leadership team and provide the team with training and support.
- Work with local leadership team to coordinate creative actions, community meetings, and outreach activities such as canvassing, business outreach, tabling, phone-banking, and making local presentations.
- Monitor local comment periods for pipeline permits at the county, city and Port of Coos Bay. Work with Rogue Climate team to create materials for the public to engage in key comment periods.
- Develop Coos County campaign database and ensure all data is collected and entered in a timely and accurate fashion.
MINIMUM POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
- At least 2 years of experience in grassroots, campus, or campaign organizing work
- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to successfully work with volunteers from a wide range of backgrounds.
- Ability to identify volunteer leaders, set priorities and move teams of volunteers in line with our goals and strategic direction.
- Ability to work independently and in team settings.
- Commitment to regularly work evenings and weekend in alignment with an outreach schedule.
- Goal-oriented, hard-working and able to work well under pressure.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Docs.
- Ability to travel within Coos County regularly and to Jackson County about once a month.
- Ability to engage respectfully with members of the community that don’t agree.

PREFERED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
- Proficiency in a CRM (Ex. Nationbuilder, Salsa) preferred but not necessary.
- Experience working with Tribal Governments and tribal members.
- Familiarity with the Jordan Cove LNG Project and the Coos Bay Estuary.
- Existing connections and relationships in Coos County.
LOCATION and STAFF RESOURCES
The Rogue Climate main office is located in Medford, OR. This position will be a remote position based out of Coos County. Regular travel around Coos County is expected, with occasional travel on average, once a month to the Rogue Climate office in Jackson County. This position will be provided the technology needed to perform their job duties, and provided either a budget to set up a home office and/or to rent and establish a field office in Coos County.
SALARY and BENEFITS
Compensation is between $35,000 to $38,000 depending on experience. Benefits include paid sick leave, vacation, and holidays as well as a medical stipend of up to $350/month.
