On Friday, September 20, communities throughout Oregon and across the world are joining forces in huge numbers to tell our leaders to take immediate action on climate change.
“Unidos: Fiesta for Climate y Communidad” is in solidarity with the thousands of youth and adults who will strike all across the world to demand transformative action be taken to address the climate crisis.
Inspired by youth like Greta Thunberg, a Swedish student who has been organizing “School Strikes for the Climate,” and communities on the frontlines of the climate crisis, students, workers, and more will be walking out of their schools and work to demand action on climate and a faster transition to renewable energy.
Throughout the day and the week of Sept. 20 – 27, there will be walkouts and events across Oregon. Activities will continue to be added to this website: https://climatestrikeoregon.org/
In the evening, communities across the Rogue Valley are coming together for music, baile, speakers, food, and opportunities to take action and learn more about the movement for climate justice in Southern Oregon.
Across Oregon, communities are demanding an end to Jordan Cove LNG and an Oregon Green New Deal that will create jobs in renewable energy and other sectors, reduce air pollution, lower energy costs, promote sustainable farms and forests, provide more equitable and cleaner transportation systems, protect communities impacted by climate change, fund a just transition to a sustainable economy, and more.
This “Fiesta” also makes participating in this week of action more accessible, as different groups of people may face different consequences for walking out of school or work than others. Bring your families to take action together. United for action on climate change NOW!
