ROGUE CLIMATE TALENT

Over the last couple of years, a group of Talent residents, along with the City, created a Clean Energy Action Plan for the City of Talent to help the City and Talent residents transition to 100% clean energy. One goal of this plan is to reduce Talent’s energy-use by 30% and transition to 100% clean energy.

For a limited time only this spring (2019), we are re-launching our FREE program to install energy efficient LED bulbs, and water saving devices including faucet aerators and a showerhead to Talent Residents.

Our goal is to upgrade 200 homes in Talent in April and May of 2019, saving over 1 million gallons of water, 200,000 kwh of energy, and keeping over $30,000 in our local economy.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How much energy and money do LED's save?

Upgrading 16 bulbs to LED can save up to $160 dollars on your electricity bill each year! The water efficient showerhead and faucet aerators can reduce your water consumption by 20% or 2,300 gallons a year!

How do I sign up?

There are multiple ways you can sign up. You can call 541-236-5038 and schedule an appointment, or you can sign up for your installation online HERE.

Once the appointment is scheduled, we will have trained volunteers come to your house and install the LEDs and water savings features!  If you have any issues with this please contact us at 541-236-5038 or email us at lightbulbs@rogueclimate.org

How long is this program running?

Our LED install program will be starting in April 2nd and ending on May 30th

How many installs have you completed?

We have installed LED bulbs in 116 homes prior to our April/May Push. In these homes, Rogue Climate volunteers have installed 1,194 LED bulbs for free. We will update this number monthly!

What about those water fixtures?

This year, Rogue Climate has decided to expand our program to include a water-efficient showerhead and faucet aerators for Avista natural gas customers.  These features can reduce the average household water consumption by 20% or 2,300 gallons.

I am having troubles with signing up: what should I do?

Please call 541-236-5038 or email us at lightbulbs@rogueclimate.org and we will get you enrolled.

If I already got an Energy Savers Kit from Energy Trust of Oregon can I still participate in the program?

Yes, you can! If you have not signed up for an Energy Saver kit then you can sign up for some more free bulbs and water savings features in the following: https://www.energytrust.org/incentives/energy-saver-kits/

I signed up a while ago. Did you forget about me or are you just really busy?

If you have not heard from us with a phone call or email link to online scheduling, please give us a call  541-236-5038 to let us know. We apologize for your inconvenience.

Can I volunteer to help this program?

Yes, of course! You can call 541-236-5038 or email lightbulbs@rogueclimate.org to sign up for a volunteer shift. These are some of the volunteer opportunities:

  • Help do installations during our appointments on Tuesday from 9:00AM-NOON or Thursday from 2:00PM - 5:00PM
  • Help do installations during our canvassing days most Saturday's in April from 10:00AM - 2:00PM
  • Make phonecalls to recruit volunteers and sign folks up for appointments at the Rogue Action Center (3932 S. Pacific Hwy, Medford) on Tuesdays from 5:00PM to 7:00PM
  • You can also tell your friends, family or neighbors about the program and encourage them to sign up for an appointment and/or a volunteer shift.

What bulbs do you install?

We are installing A19 (lamp style) LED bulbs, as well as BR30 (recessed can) LED bulbs. They use 85% less electricity to produce the same amount of light.

Are those the bulbs that take awhile to turn on?

No, our bulbs will turn on right away. Some of the older CFL type bulbs needed to warm up for a few seconds but you won’t have to worry about that with these bulbs.

Are those the bulbs that have mercury in them?

No, LED lights do not contain any mercury.

How do I dispose of my old light bulbs?

Here are some links that will help you dispose of your lightbulbs properly:

https://www.recology.com/recology-ashland/hazardous-waste/

Are they dimmable?

Most likely they will be. Our bulbs are built to be dimmable but some specialty dimmers don’t “play nice” with the LEDs. We will always double check to make sure your dimmers are compatible with our bulbs.

What about 3-way and motion sensors?

Unfortunately, our bulbs are not rated for these fixtures so we will not be able to install, but there are plenty of options available elsewhere.

Can you replace my specialty bulbs?

We don’t carry any bulbs beyond the A19 and BR30s, but there are LED alternatives for nearly all bulb shapes and types available elsewhere.

How is this program funded?

3% of our energy bills go to fund energy efficiency programs to reduce overall energy use in Oregon.  This program is funded through that fee.

I don't live in Talent, can I still participate?

Unfortunately, at this point we are only offering this program in Talent. Let us know if you are interested though by emailing lightbulbs@rogueclimate.org and we will let you know if we expand the program!
