ABOUT ROGUE CLIMATE

Since 2013, Rogue Climate has been building a climate movement in southern Oregon to achieve solutions to climate change that result in cleaner energy, sustainable jobs and a healthy climate, while preserving our rural quality of life. We have also played a lead organizing role in Oregon to stop new fossil fuel infrastructure like the proposed Jordan Cove LNG export terminal and the Pacific Connector Pipeline in southern Oregon. We are committed to working for climate solutions that result in a just transition to clean energy that benefits rural, low income and communities of color.

OVERVIEW

Rogue Climate will be joining a multi-year campaign to advance climate and clean energy policy and increase support in rural communities for addressing climate change. This position will involve working closely with labor, equity, community, and environmental partners across the state to bring the voice of rural communities to decision makers on statewide climate policy and ensure climate solutions that work for rural communities.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

As the Rogue Climate Field Organizer, you will be part of the core team implementing a highly ambitious plan to build the climate movement in Oregon. The Field Organizer will report directly to the Rogue Climate Director and will implement the campaign’s base building and leadership development program to engage grassroots volunteers and leaders in Southern Oregon. Ideally, you are a highly motivated and politically driven individual that has a passion for climate justice, clean energy, and rural communities and is invested in positive change for our climate and beyond. Core duties include:

  • Community outreach and training volunteers and volunteer leaders to be part of ongoing climate and clean energy education and policy campaigns. This may include phone banking, canvassing, community presentations, social media and more.

  • Engage leaders of community organizations, civic associations, faith communities and other groups to educate and activate their members on Rogue Climate’s priorities.

  • Plan and execute action-oriented events and activities that draw in new supporters from southern Oregon, including logistics for days of action in Salem.

  • Identify new spokespeople and supporters in southern Oregon that are being impacted by climate change, as well as those who can or are benefiting from a clean energy economy and work with them to share their stories.

  • Write and execute a work plan to advance Rogue Climate campaign and policy goals.

  • Ensure data is collected and entered in a timely and accurate fashion.

  • Assist in other tasks as needed to advance Rogue Climate campaigns and goals.

MINIMUM POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 2 years of experience in grassroots, campus, or campaign organizing work

  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to successfully work with volunteers from a wide range of backgrounds.

  • Ability to identify volunteer leaders, set priorities and move teams of volunteers in line with our goals and strategic direction.

  • Ability to work independently and in team settings.

  • Commitment to working long and irregular hours (including evenings and weekends) as needed.

  • Goal-oriented, hard-working and able to work well under pressure.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Docs.

  • Ability to travel across Jackson and Josephine counties extensively and throughout the state on occasion.

PREFERED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bilingual/Bicultural

  • Proficiency in VAN and/or NationBuilder preferred but not necessary.

  • Background in engaging with people from underserved and underrepresented communities.

  • Familiarity with climate or energy policy at the state level.

SALARY and LOCATION

This position is based out of the Rogue Action Center in Medford, Oregon. Compensation is commensurate with experience. Some benefits included.
