Science Works Pub Talk: What the Frack is Fracking?

Join Science Works and petroleum geologist Len Eisenberg on Thursday, February 13th at 6:30pm for a pub talk on the perils and promise of hydraulic fracturing.

Learn about the basics of petroleum exploration, its large role in the world, and the promise and perils of hydraulic fracturing, a technique that has been used in the petroleum industry for decades, but now applied to shale rock has opened up new resources of oil and natural gas from previously uneconomic shale deposits. The issues in play with regard to fracking include the impact of increased production, climate change and environment, water use and groundwater contamination problems and remedies, national security and USA trade balance, and domestic job creation.

Mr. Eisenberg is a former international petroleum geologist.  His current research focuses on unusual flood deposits in the 200-million-year-old Navajo Sandstone of central Utah.
